Thirteen Hours is a personal short documentary about I, a foreign student in U.S., reach for
home thousands of miles away through making phone calls and sharing videos with my
parents.
Since Covid-19, I haven’t been back home due to difficulties in traveling from international travel restrictions and visa issues. At the beginning of the pandemic, I moved to Chicago, while my parents, who live in Chengdu, maintained the same lifestyle they had since I lived with them at age 14.
In Chicago, I stayed inside the apartment most of the time. Thousands of miles away, my parents record their dinners and weekend trips on their phones and share them with me. We also have voice or video calls to talk about things in our lives every week.
